Movie on Demand Distribution

Like many independent filmmakers out there I was disappointed with how the traditional distribution deals for my movies turned out. This is kind of like my Jerry Maguire moment. It’s 6 AM on a Saturday and I’m on my laptop. Making smaller budget movies outside of Hollywood without name stars severely limits your distribution options. 9 out of 10 times it leads to a filmmaker signing a deal with a independent distribution company that doesn’t pay off. You basically sell the rights to your movie for pennies on the dollar. Not to mention your sweat equity and creative energy that goes unrewarded. Bottom-line is most independent filmmakers don’t come close to breaking even with these type of distribution deals. It’s down right frustrating.

After going through this myself I started to rethink if making independent movies was worth it. Then my friend, editor Tim Beachum, who follows tech trends in entertainment told me, “You love to make movies. Don’t stop. Just rethink how to get your movies distributed to viewers.” I watch videos on YouTube, MetaCafe, Dailymotion and other sites. Free content is cool, but independent filmmakers need to earn money from their work like the rest of the world. Free doesn’t pay the bills. Then I started to look into sites that offered movies on demand for a modest fee. I saw that this might be the best platform to get my movies seen by viewers and hopefully earn a living.

I started to research

Hollywood Video Franchising

Why re-invent the wheel when looking to open up your own small business, when franchising opportunities can allow you to branch out with business that has proven itself capable of bringing in a profit? Deciding which business to join as a franchise partner is a very large decision. The key is to find a successful business in a market that is likely to thrive, even in the midst of our currently turbulent economy. Hollywood Video franchising offers small business owners a piece of a very lucrative multimedia pie. It does not matter if your young, old, rich, poor, educated, and uneducated, no matter what socioeconomic background a person comes from, everyone likes to settle in and watch a good movie. Hollywood Video provides customers with newly released films at a reasonable rental rate, so they can enjoy viewing in the comfort of their own homes. There are three significant reasons to consider opening a franchise of this company, which has recently decided to expand.

Last Year’s Greatest Movies

When it comes movies about the Iraq War, nothing comes close to the Hurt Locker. Directed by Kathryn Bigelow, oddly enough the ex-wife of another director on my list, this movie offered an incredible look at one man’s story of bomb squad life in hostile territory. The cinematography in this movie was insanely good.

If you are a fan of anything that’s awesome then Avatar has to be on your list of favorite movies. This movie was absolutely incredible. James Cameron has truly mastered the art of showing us his imagination.

The planet of Pandora was unlike anything we, as viewers, have ever seen and the 3D technology truly made you feel as if you were on this foreign planet.

Both the aforementioned movies were exceptional, but my favorite movie of the year goes to District 9.

Directed by Neil Blompkamp and starring Sharlto Copley in his acting debut, this movie blew away all my expectations. The budget was somewhere in the 20 million range, however the action in this movie was only trumped by Avatar. That is saying something considering all the lackluster action movies Hollywood releases every year (Yes I am talking to you Michael Bay).

I truly loved District 9 and felt as if I never knew where it would go next. There is an endless list of adjectives I can use to describe this one, but words can’t do it justice. If you are a fan of science fiction

Comedies And Their Attraction in Hollywood

Everyone loves entertainment. After all, it is the spice of life and it must go on till the life remains. Movies are one of the best sources of entertainment. If talked about comedy movies in Hollywood, they begin around 1900.

The first comic movie made people laugh at the continued sneezing of a man. The movie was “Record of Sneeze”—the title just perfect with the plot. It was the beginner of the trend of comedies. The trend then never took a back gear; just moving on and on. Most of the classic comedy movies were made during the silent movies” era.

Talking about the best performances of comedy actors, Charlie Chaplin stands at the top. He has been awarded as the best comedian till date. His terrific comedy timings and his comic face itself has the power to make people roll with laughter. Many of the top comedies are performed by Charlie Chaplin.

It is a fact that comedy movies have more scope to be successful as after the stressful and hectic daily routine, one needs light atmosphere for sure. Watching comedies instead of heavy or negative or extremely meaningful movies relaxes a person in a better way.

Comedies strengthened their grip much more after the top serious actors realized its importance and the attachment of audience to such movies. Hollywood got some of the top comedians who are and will be admired till Hollywood is there. Top comedians include Dudley Moore, Tom hanks,

Graphic Novels Taking Over Hollywood

If you are a movie fan like me than you have probably noticed the upswing in Hollywood studios going to the comic book and graphic novel well for ideas lately. Makes me wonder if the Hollywood studios are just running out of original ideas or are they finally giving credit to the right people. You have to admit some of the biggest blockbuster movies over the last few years have been from the realm of comic books and graphic novels.

Movies like Batman, X-men, 300, Spider Man, Iron Man and the latest Watchmen have all represented the comic book genre very well. There are many more I could mention and a lot more comic books and graphic novel movies that are on the way too. It’s a rich world of characters that really has limitless possibilities proven by the success of the new release the Watchmen. Many people believed that a rich character driven and dark graphic novel like the Watchmen would not have a shot of being made into a movie let alone a successful movie.

Hollywood studios are showing that they now have the technical chops to pull off pretty much anything that a comics book or graphic novel writer can imagine. It does make you wonder though if all the good movie ideas are gone and big wigs in Hollywood are just trolling around comic books and graphic novels to find their next blockbuster movie. New Movie Ratings

My husband and I have gone on a date every Friday night, for the last 51 years. Until recently, our date was eating out and going to a movie. It was something we always enjoyed and looked forward to, but the last few years have changed all that. We go to very few movies today. Why? Because of the quality of movies they are now making. Most of them are filled with sex, violence and bad language. I have discovered why God gave us eyelids, fingers and feet. I determine how bad the movie is by how many times I have to close my eyes and put my fingers in my ears and then walk out. There was a time when we would be warned, but now even PG movies have their fair share of bad stuff and the kids movies are getting more evil.

This low quality of entertainment is really sad for us. In the past we would leave a movie feeling happy, even romantic and uplifted. It was our break for the week. Seeing a movie was our relief from the stresses of our life and just a fun thing to do.

Now we leave the movie depressed or upset that we spent the money to see it, or we are afraid, driving home, for fear we will get into a drive by shooting. All those special effects look real!!!!!!!! It seems like mankind has just gone down hill.

New Pirates of the Caribbean Movie

In June 2010 filming began on a new Pirates of the Caribbean movie but will audiences still have the same appetite to see Johnny Depp returning to play Captain Jack Sparrow? The first three Pirates movies made over one billion dollars from North American audiences but it is interesting to note that the second movie in the series, “Dead Man’s Chest”, made the most of all three films. Why is that?

When the first Pirates of the Caribbean movie came out in 2003 it was a summertime hit. The movie ended its run with an impressive box office figure of $305 million dollars. Realizing that it had a new franchise on its hands, Walt Disney Pictures immediately ordered two more Pirates of the Caribbean movies to be filmed back to back and released one year apart. The first sequel was “Dead Man’s Chest” which came out in the summer of 2006. That movie made $406 million dollars, $100 million more than the first movie did. But when the third movie came out one year later, “At World’s End”, only grossed $309 million dollars, barely $4 million dollars over what the first Pirates movie made. Why?

One of the theories is that sequels only seem to do better when there is more time spread out between them. This allows audiences to not get accustomed to seeing the same characters over and over again in too short of a time. Back in the golden age of movies Hollywood
